Scheduling: How to set up your first wedding dress fitting
You’ve ordered your wedding dress, and now it’s time to schedule your alterations. We completely understand that this is your first time planning a wedding, and probably your first time ever getting a garment altered. So, here is the information we need:
-
-
- Wedding date or date you are leaving if out of town
- Designer and style name of dress (photos or a link work too)
- Roughly what alterations you need (hem, shorten sleeves, sides in, bustle, etc.)
- Do you have your shoes?
- Do you have your undergarments?
- Other very important details:
-
- Is the dress too small?
- Are you pregnant?
- Are you wanting any restyling work done?
- Are you in a wheelchair?
- Do you live out of town?
-
To schedule, just hop on over to our online booking site and choose Wedding Dress First Alteration Fitting. In the notes section, please include the above information. If you forget or need to attach a photo, you can always email me! After you have that appointment requested, I will reach out to either schedule your follow up appointment(s) or adjust your start date depending on your circumstance. Once your timeline is finalized I will add your dress to our working calendar. This way when you come for your first fitting, we are completely prepared.
You will need to have your wedding shoes and your undergarments at your first fitting. We do have bra pads that can be sewn in for $40. We carry regular and pushup cups in size A-DD. Your fittings are a great time to test out underwear and Spanx. Especially if your dress is thin or has a low back, you will want to confirm that your underwear will work before your big day!
Why do we need to know the other details? All of those things will affect how we schedule your alteration series. If your dress is too small, generally we need an extra fitting. At the first fitting we evaluate what can be done to expand the gown, with the bulk of alterations actually starting at the second fitting. Restyling work normally also requires one to two extra appointments. If you are pregnant, we will schedule alterations in a shorter timeline much closer to the wedding date. If you are in a wheelchair, we will try to schedule you on a less busy day or time to give us more space to work (Silhouette is wheelchair accessible, but a small space). And if you live out of town, we can accommodate appointments with your travel schedule.
The more we know upfront, the easier the scheduling process works. We wholeheartedly enjoy being prepared and avoiding surprises!
