What to wear under your wedding dress
You just ordered your dream wedding dress, but what underwear are you going to wear with it? If your gown is a more slender silhouette or thinner material, you will definitely need to wear a seamless undergarment or go without. If you are like me, you really don’t want to be talking with your uncle without undies on, so, below are some suggestions. They are not sexy but they work. My husband personally hates them as they do make you look like a Barbie doll. But, believe me, they are stupidly comfortable. Just pack some sexy unmentionables to slip into AFTER the wedding.
1. Form fitting dress
For form fitting dresses with full coverage and no back cutouts or low back necklines, you have the most options. The key is finding a pair of underwear or shapewear that isn’t bulky, so no elastic or folded over edges. If you can see your belly button indent through your dress, go with a high waisted, over the belly button version.
We especially like this control top thong by Commando. You get some belly suction without the full leg coverage. But, if you want the leg coverage (nobody wants to deal with their legs rubbing together on a hot day!), I’d opt for these super lightweight Spanx Thinstincts. They are no-show, plus you get great smoothing all over coverage. And they come in plus sizes too!
2. Form Fitting but with a lower back or sides
If your dress dips down to your waist in the back or you have illusion netting or lace that isn’t lined until the waist, you will need to opt for an underwear style that sits a little lower. You will still want to go with a seamless nylon variation, but one that just ends below your natural waist (the smallest part of your body).
We like this shorts style from Spanx for full coverage and this thong style from Hanky Panky for less coverage. Both are lightweight and made from smooth and breathable microfiber.
3. Form fitting with a below the waist back
If you have a cutout or your lace or illusion back dips below the waist, you will need to find a hipster variation. You do loose the belly sucking power of the higher waisted shapewear, but you can still get a little coverage. We love the hipster and bikini options from Commando. And for a little less coverage this thong from Chantelle would work great with a low back dress.
4. Even lower!
If your dress has lace cutouts on the hips, the only option you have is commando!!! Take a shot of tequila and get the party started:)
